Children & Young People Theme Group

The work of this group covers a wide variety of issues affecting young people aged 0 – 19 and their families – including; health, safety, education, jobs and training as well as an array of activities and facilities.

Residents, schools, and agencies such as Hattersley Children’s Centre, Tameside Youth Services and Greater Manchester Police play an active role in the group, helping to identify issues, plan actions, monitor progress and report back to the Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership Board.

Current priorities include:

  • promoting parenting and family involvement
  • supporting academic achievement and extra-curricular activity
  • helping young people to make positive and informed choices about their current and future lives
  • helping young people develop the skills necessary to face
    the challenges of adult life

Group achievements include:

  • Introduction of ‘Peer Mentoring’ in local Primary Schools
  • Increased usage of Cyber Café under Youth Services  
  • Delivery of ‘Speak Easy’ parent sex education
  • Support  for Alcohol & Sex and Relationships Education
  • Mainstreaming of the Reading Recovery project
  • Involvement in local and regional youth events
  • Targeted youth intervention work
  • Provision of holiday and ‘out-of-school’ activities
