Community Safety Theme Group

The Community Safety Theme Group defines community safety as ‘any issue that may harm property or the well being of people’, and brings together residents and a variety of community safety professionals to tackle local issues.

Members include the Police, the Fire and Rescue Service, Tameside Patrollers, Hattersley Community Safety Resource Centre and PACT (Police and Community Together).

However, actions to address various issues can involve many other partners such as:  Schools, the Children’s Centre, health services and housing providers to name but a few.

Priorities include:

  • Ensuring that issues are heard and dealt with appropriately
  • Reducing levels of Domestic Abuse
  • Reducing anti-social behaviour
  • Reducing fear of crime in younger and older residents
  • Increasing confidence in, and understanding of community safety services

Achievements include:

  • Continued low crime rate
  • Reduction in anti-social behaviour
  • Delivery of Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiatives
  • New street CCTV in collaboration with District Assembly
  • Delivery of the Smoke Alarm in Every Child’s Bedroom Scheme

The group welcomes enquiries and involvement from local residents.  To discuss issues or get more information please contact Mark Tunstall on 0161 368 2096, by e-mail at call in at the HNP office.
