Jobs, Training & Enterprise Theme Group

Responding to data that shows the area has a large number of people classed as economically inactive, the group are involved in variety of initiatives to help raise skill levels, provide qualifications and help people find work.

Group priorities include:

  • Ensuring benefits are gained from the Physical Development Programme
  • Raising levels of skills, qualifications and employment
  • Reducing numbers claiming out of work benefits
  • Supporting self employment and small enterprises
  • Increasing  the number of 16 – 18 year olds  in education, training  or employment.More detail on these and other planned actions can be found in The Group Action Plan

Achievements include:

  • Development of the Step Ahead service
  • Opening of the Step Ahead Training Resource Centre
  • Delivery of Construction Industry Skills Safety Certificate
  • Delivery of accredited training based on needs of residents and employers
  • Establishment of the Hattersley Job Club
  • Local employers providing work opportunities for residents
  • Establishment of the Entry to Employment initiative for 16-18 year olds
