Older People 50+

A range of community groups and agencies are active in the area, providing activities, support and initiatives for older people.

Many are long standing groups such as the Ivy Club, which holds weekly get togethers at the Chapman Arms, with several other well established groups meeting regularly at venues such as Hattersley Community Centre.

Although many groups and agencies are already working together on various projects it is only recently that the decision was taken to form an Older Peoples Theme Group in order to coordinate action to support and enhance life for the over fifties.

Hattersley’s Mancunian Reunion project was the catalyst for the new arrangement, with the appointment of an Older People’s Worker and the development of the Good Neighbours Scheme bringing partners such as Age Concern and Tameside Council’s Opening Doors for Older Peoples Partnership together with local community groups.

The Older People’s Theme Group had its first meeting in April 2010, where agencies and representatives from various community groups discussed the role of the group and began to look at aims and objectives.

Over the coming weeks the group will be holding workshops to identify priorities and develop key aims and objectives, which will be included in an action plan to guide future work.

Once this work has been completed we will create an Older People’s Theme Group page on this website, giving further details.

For more information on the group please keep visiting the website for updates or alternatively, call Sharron Power on 0161 368 2096.
